Did you know? (Let's talk about Elton John!)
Did you know you know that Elton John didn’t originally need glasses? He started wearing them when he was starting out as a teenager because “he wanted to look more like Buddy Holly.”
Did you know that when Elton John and Rod Stewart enjoy feuding with each other in public? When Rod Stewart played Las Vegas years ago and the marquee announced his Blondes Have More Fun tour, Elton had a banner put up across the street that read, “But Brunettes Make More Money.”
Did you know that Elton names his pianos? They’re his trademark instrument, after all, so it’s not surprising he feels fond of them. And most of them are named after famous female musicians…including Aretha Franklin and Diana Krall.
Did you know you can book Elton for a private event? It might set you back more than a million dollars, but the money goes to a good cause: his Elton John AIDS Foundation…which he created to honor his long-time friend, Freddie Mercury.
And those are just some of fun facts and intriguing insights you’ll hear about at our next Great Moments in Vinyl concert: Elton John—20 Memorable Moments.
Plan to join us at the Joliet Area Historical Museum on Friday, December 2nd!
In the meantime, here’s a legendary performance that was recreated in the Elton John bio pic Rocketman (with a guest appearance by Billie Jean King).
