All Aboard the Train!
Graham Nash was looking for inspiration. Inspiration with a capital “I”. He was in The Hollies at the time, and he wanted to move forward with his music and grow.
One idea that came to him was to follow in the footsteps of the American beat poets: Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, Jack Kerouac. Graham had read that they all had gone to Morocco to smoke pot and write poetry, and he told Songwriting magazine that “that sounded like a good idea to me.”
So Graham and his wife went for a vacation in Morocco, taking a plane from London to Casablanca on the coast and then catching the express train to Marrakesh 150 miles further inland.
Along the way he did find that inspiration he was looking for. Not surprisingly, he came up with a song about changing your point of view.
