Highlights from The Class of 1973: February

Elton John enjoyed his first #1 single with “Crocodile Rock.”

“Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree” was released by Tony Orlando and Dawn and went on to become the best-selling recording in the U. S. that year.

Steely Dan’s “Do It Again,” John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High,” and the instrumental from the Deliverance soundtrack, “Duelling Banjos,” all made it into the Top 10.

The comic strip Hägar the Horrible made its debut.

All in the Family was the most popular TV show in the U. S. followed closely by Sanford and Son.

The Midnight Special started appearing as a regular TV concert series with Helen Reddy as the first guest host with opening act Ike and Tina Turner.

The King Biscuit Flower Hour began its run as a weekly radio concert series with a show that featured Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, and a new rock singer named Bruce Springsteen.
