Five Things We Didn’t Know About The Cars Until We Put Together This Tribute
Here are just some of the fun-facts-to-know-and-tell about The Cars that we've worked into our concert March 20th at Martyrs’ (3855 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago).
Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr used to have a folk rock band named Milkwood that recorded one album and featured three part harmonies that were very reminiscent of Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Guitarist Elliot Easton used to play six sets a night in a country band in Boston. And you can hear that influence in his guitar playing. Just check out his guitar solo on “Best Friend’s Girl.”
Benjamin Orr’s last name is actually Orzechowski…which is why when he was a kid, his friends all called him “Benny Eleven Letters.”
For a band that’s known for being from Boston, The Cars only had one member who was a Massachusetts native: drummer David Robinson.
Greg Hawkes majored in composition and flute when he attended college. But with The Cars he can only be heard playing keyboards…and sometimes, if you listen closely, the saxophone.
