Great Moments in Vinyl plays Tina Turner

  • St. Helen's Carnival 2347 West Augusta Boulevard Chicago, IL, 60622 United States (map)

Tina Turner!  Could anyone match her for her dynamic presence?  Her boundless energy?  Her remarkable career?

Tina’s story began in the 1950s when her amazing voice was discovered by one of the music business’ most notorious characters, the abusive and manipulative Ike Turner.  After a harrowing twenty years under his spell, Tina finally found the strength to break free giving up literally everything she had except the ownership of her stage name.  Armed with that along with her amazing resilience and her relentless talent, Tina went on to become one of the great comeback stories of the 20th century.

Platinum selling albums, arena tours, and Grammy Awards were her rewards for a lifetime of hard work.  And if that weren’t enough, when she took the stage in Rio de Janeiro one memorable night in 1988, the 180,000 people who packed the stadium put her in The Guinness Book of World Records for the “largest paying concert attendance for a solo artist.”  It’s a record that has yet to be broken.

James Brown may have been “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business.”  But there’s plenty of proof that Tina Turner was “The Hardest Working Person in Show Business.  Period.”

Great Moments in Vinyl will follow this remarkable singer’s journey from cotton farmer’s daughter to international superstar by performing the songs that were the signposts along her way.  Celebrate the indomitable power of the human spirit with us when we pay tribute to Tina Turner.
