Unrequited Love

In the Peanuts comic strip, Lucy doted on Schroeder.  Sally pined for Linus.  Peppermint Patty had a crush on Charlie Brown.  Marcy was fond of Peppermint Patty.  And Charlie Brown?  He was famous for the way he’d sit on a bench, eating his lunch, longing for the “little red-haired girl.”

“That little red-haired girl sure is cute.

“I’d give anything in the world to be sitting there next to her eating lunch.

He takes a bite of his sandwich...and then says,
“Bleah!  Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter like unrequited love.”

Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls once told an interviewer that “unrequited love is probably [her] favorite subject matter.”

Amy Ray of Indigo Girls agreed:  “I wrote more unrequited love songs when I was younger because I was more unrequited.  There is a certain charm to being 18 to 22.  All you can think about is wanting to get someone in the back of your car.”
