Billy Joel Fills in the Blanks
In 1966, when Billy Joel was in his junior year at Hicksville High School on Long Island, he and his fellow students were given a questionnaire titled ‘Idea Associations.’ The form provided a phrase to prompt a response, and the students would fill in the blanks.
Here are some of the things that Billy wrote:
I LIKE: good music, New York City, pretty girls, Chinese food
I HATE: loud-voiced people, phony people, prejudiced people
I SUFFER: from a lack of taking things seriously
I NEED: a good shot of confidence
A MOTHER: is indispensable
A BROTHER: never had one
MY FATHER: left when I was younger
I WISH: I had a million dollars
I AM SORRY: that I got in with the wrong crowd
I AM MOST AFRAID OF: ruining someone’s life
THE ONLY TROUBLE IS: what’s done is done
