"Don't Stop"
Fleetwood Mac was just a week or two into the crafting of their new record, the one that would become Rumours,...when Mick Fleetwood got a call from the lawyer that represented them to their record label. The previous album, the first one with Stevie and Lindsey, had come out only six months before. And in an era when hit records took time to build momentum, the success of that album was still continuing to grow.
As the sales figures increased and Fleetwood Mac’s record company saw newfound potential in the band, they turned up the heat. Mick’s lawyer told him, “It’s imperative that we do our best on this [next] release. Because if we can create two hit albums in a row, we'll be set for life.”
Needless to say, their lawyer...was right. Rumours was an instant commercial success, selling over 10 million copies worldwide within just a month of its release. And as of February 2023, the album has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it the 12th best-selling album of all time.
Don’t…stop…thinking about tomorrow…indeed!
