Putting together Private Dancer
Tina Turner had a massive hit with her single “Let’s Stay Together.” The only problem was: she needed an album to go with it. And she needed it now.
Her only stipulation was that the record had to rock. And with that in mind, Tina’s manager Roger Davies put out the word to all his songwriting connections.
Quickly, the ideas began to come in, an assortment of songs from some of the most promising young rock and pop songwriters of the time. And quickly, Tina found herself driving to multiple studios to work with different producers every night to rock all those different melodies with her amazing voice.
It was a whirlwind effort. But the album they put together, Private Dancer, went on to sell more than 12 million copies worldwide. Believe it or not, they completed it in just two weeks.
