Dolly Parton learned early on in her career that when the muse comes calling, you listen.

Dolly made it a point to remember the girl’s name by repeating it to herself over and over until she got back to the tour bus so she could write it down.

“Jolene. Jolene. Jolene. Jolene.”

In fact, the words began to take on a rhythm of their own, and before long, Dolly was writing a song with that name in it.

Word has it that Dolly earned $10 million in the 1990s for Whitney’s version. And while you’re recovering from the size of that figure, according to Entertainment Weekly, Parton revealed that she had Houston in mind when she was deciding how to spend those earnings.
